Anton Pavlovics Csehov orosz író, drámaíró, orvos. Puskin, Gogol, Tolsztoj, Dosztojevszkij és Turgenyev mellett a 19. századi orosz irodalom legnagyobbjai közé tartozik. A 20. századi drámairodalom egyik legnagyobb hatású alakja, az úgynevezett „drámaiatlan” dráma megteremtője, a novella műfajának megújítója.
