Została nominowana przez prezydenta Billa Clintona 5 grudnia 1996 na stanowisko sekretarza stanu. Oficjalnie objęła urząd 23 stycznia 1997 roku. Albright była pierwszą kobietą na tym stanowisku . Wikipedia
