Bruce Springsteen

Birthdate: 23. September 1949

Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen is an American singer-songwriter and musician, known for his work with the E Street Band. Nicknamed "The Boss", he is widely known for his brand of poetic lyrics, his Jersey Shore roots, his distinctive voice, and his lengthy and energetic stage performances.

Springsteen's recordings have included both commercially accessible rock albums and more somber folk-oriented works. His most successful studio albums, Born to Run and Born in the U.S.A. find pleasures in the struggles of daily American life. He has sold more than 140 million records worldwide and more than 64 million records in the United States, making him one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. He has earned numerous awards for his work, including 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, and an Academy Award as well as being inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1999. In 2009, Springsteen was a Kennedy Center Honors recipient, in 2013 was named MusiCares person of the year, and in 2016 was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Springsteen married Patti Scialfa in 1991. Their three children are Evan James Springsteen, Jessica Rae Springsteen, and Sam Ryan Springsteen.

„Show a little faith, there's magic in the night;
You ain't a beauty but hey you're all right.“

—  Bruce Springsteen

"Thunder Road"
Song lyrics, Born to Run (1975)
Context: Don't run back inside
Darling you know just what I'm here for.
So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we ain't that young anymore.
Show a little faith, there's magic in the night;
You ain't a beauty but hey you're all right.
Oh and that's all right with me.

„We gotta get out while we're young,
'Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run.“

—  Bruce Springsteen, book Born to Run

"Born to Run"
Song lyrics, Born to Run (1975)
Context: In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American dream.
At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines.
Sprung from cages on Highway 9,
Chrome-wheeled, fuel-injected
And steppin' out over the line.
Baby this town rips the bones from your back.
It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap.
We gotta get out while we're young,
'Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run.
