Innowator języka literackiego, który wzbogacił o argot i specyfikę języka mówionego, wyzwolonego ze składni francuskiej. Znany zwłaszcza dzięki skandalizującej powieści Podróż do kresu nocy, określanej przez Jerzego Stempowskiego jako powieść bez estetyzmu.
