Prince Quotes

Prince Rogers Nelson was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer.

Prince was a musical innovator who was known for his eclectic work, flamboyant stage presence, extravagant dress and makeup, and wide vocal range. His music integrated a wide variety of styles, including funk, rock, R&B, new wave, soul, psychedelia, and pop. He has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He won seven Grammy Awards, an American Music Award, a Golden Globe Award, and an Academy Award for the film Purple Rain. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, his first year of eligibility.

He was born in Minneapolis and developed an interest in music as a young child. He signed a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records at the age of 17, and released his debut album For You in 1978. His 1979 album Prince went platinum, and his next three records—Dirty Mind , Controversy , and 1999 —continued his success, showcasing Prince's prominently sexual lyrics and blending of funk, dance, and rock music. In 1984, he began referring to his backup band as The Revolution and released Purple Rain, the soundtrack album to his eponymous 1984 film debut. It quickly became his most critically and commercially successful release, spending 24 consecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 and selling over 20 million copies worldwide. After releasing the albums Around the World in a Day and Parade , The Revolution disbanded, and Prince released the double album Sign o' the Times as a solo artist. He released three more solo albums before debuting The New Power Generation band in 1991.

In 1993, while in a contractual dispute with Warner Bros., he changed his stage name to , an unpronounceable symbol also known as the "Love Symbol", and began releasing new albums at a faster pace to remove himself from contractual obligations. He released five records between 1994 and 1996 before signing with Arista Records in 1998. In 2000, he began referring to himself as "Prince" again. He released 16 albums after that, including the platinum-selling Musicology . His final album, Hit n Run Phase Two, was first released on the Tidal streaming service on December 12, 2015.

Prince died from a fentanyl overdose at his Paisley Park recording studio and home in Chanhassen, Minnesota, on April 21, 2016, at the age of 57.

Prince Quotes about time

“The internet's completely over. […] The internet's like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can't be good for you.”

I know what's on your mind
U wouldn't be satisfied with a one night stand
And I could never take the place of your man.”

Prince Quotes

“It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. And we're in a place now where we all need one another, and it's going to get rougher.”

From the closing credits of Under the Cherry Moon (1986), and the liner notes of Parade (1986)

“At this point, I wouldn't want to jinx it by meeting him. His arrangements are incredible. I just send him a tape, we talk on the phone, and he sends me the finished orchestra tracks. Hear that? I'm gonna get that chord on the radio!”

Discussing his then nearly decade-and-a-half-long working relationship with arranger Clare Fischer (whom he'd never met, nor ever would meet, face to face), as quoted in the January 2000 issue of Keyboard Magazine, reprinted in Keyboard Presents Synth Gods https://books.google.com/books?id=BMucfBTXvMgC&pg=PA97&dq=%22I+wouldn't+want+to+jinx+it%22+%22that+chord+on+the+radio%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=w2acVdevKIKYyASn3oCoBg&ved=0CBQQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=false (2011), edited by Ernie Rideout, p. 97

“Let's Go Crazy.”

Song lyrics, Purple Rain (1984)

“I've been to the mountaintop. There's nothing there.”

To Jim Walsh, in context of writing new material.
Source: Walsh: I said to him, "Come on, man—don't you want to make another Sign o' the Times, another Purple Rain?" I don't know if I framed it exactly like that, but he said, "No, no—Jim, I've been to the mountaintop. There's nothing there." https://www.gq.com/story/prince-stories
