“This," Adrian said grandly, "is Blake Lazar."

Blake smile radiantly. "May I call you Vasilisa?"
"You can call me Lissa."
"You can also," added Christian, "let go of her hand now.”

“Call me crazy for asking this, but, um, are Lissa and I going with you?"
"No"
"No?"
"No.”

“You can kiss me if you like," she said.

Alex let go of her and turned away. "Thanks, Fiona," he said. "But frankly I'd prefer to kiss the horse.”

“You said go to her, and I let pride stand in my way. You said she needed me, and I didn't believe. You said love her, and I thought it would be easy.”

“I called my mother up when they announced the Nobel Prize, waiting until 7 in the morning. She said, “That’s nice — and when are you going to see me next?””

“Adrian," she interrupted. "Didn't you just say I'm brilliant and always know everything? Then trust me on this."
"Always," I said, letting her pull me back down to her. "Always.”

Ghyl turned to look at her, trying to divine every last scintilla of her meaning.
