„Ahol kiváltságosok, ott páriák is vannak! A csavargó gyermekek nagy száma az anya keserves helyzetének az egyik legtragikusabb és legcsalhatatlanabb bizonyítéka. E téren még az optimista Pravda is keserű beismerésre kényszerül. „Sok asszony számára komoly veszélyt jelent egy gyermek születése…” A forradalmi hatalom éppen ezért adta meg az asszonynak a magzatelhajtás jogát, amely egyike az asszony legfontosabb polgári, politikai és kulturális jogainak mindaddig, míg nyomor és családi elnyomás létezik, bármi legyen is erről mindkét nem heréltjeinek és aggszűzeinek a véleménye. Azonban ez a szomorú jog, a társadalmi egyenlőtlenség folytán előjoggá válik. Megdöbbentőek a magzatelhajtásról közölt részleges sajtó-felvilágosítások: „százkilencvenöt asszonyt tettek rokkanttá az angyalcsinálók”, akik közül harminchárom munkásnő, huszonnyolc tisztviselőnő, hatvanöt kolhozparasztasszony, ötvennyolc háztartásbeli került be 1935-ben az egyik urali falusi kórházba. Ez a vidék annyiban különbözik a többitől, hogy a rá vonatkozó adatokat közölték. Hányra tehető az egész Szovjetunióban azoknak az asszonyoknak a száma, akiket a rosszul végrehajtott magzatelhajtások kapcsán megcsonkítanak?”

„A forradalom hősies kísérletet tett a posványos, ósdi „családi körnek”, e rutinos, fullasztó őskori intézménynek a megsemmisítésére, amelyben a dolgozó osztályok asszonyai gyermekkoruktól halálukig tartó kényszermunkára voltak ítélve. A forradalmárok elképzelése szerint a családot mint egy bezárt, kicsiny „vállalatot” a szociális közszolgátatások rendszere volt hivatva helyettesíteni: szülőotthonok, bölcsődék, óvodák, éttermek, tisztítóvállalatok, orvosi rendelők, kórházak, sportszervezetek, mozik, színházak stb. A család gazdasági funkcióinak a szocialista társadalom által vállalt teljes átvétele, amely egy egész nemzedéket fon össze a szolidaritás és a kölcsönös segítség révén, lehetővé kellett tegye az asszony, és így a házaspár igazi felszabadulását az évszázados járom alól. Mindaddig, amíg ez a mű nem nyer befejezést, a negyven millió szovjet család nagy többsége a középkori erkölcsöknek, az asszony szolgaságának és hisztériájának, a gyermek mindennapos megaláztatásának, mind az egyik, mind a másik babonáinak a zsákmánya marad.”

„Az állam, miután kimutatta, hogy képtelen a magzatelhajtásra szoruló asszonyokat a szükséges orvosi segítséggel és higiénikus berendezésekkel ellátni, hirtelen irányt változtat és a tilalmak útjára lép. Mint más esetekben, a bürokrácia ezúttal is erénynek próbálja feltüntetni az eszmei szegénységet. Solz, a szovjet Legfelsőbb Bíróság egyik tagja, a házassággal kapcsolatos kérdéseknek a szakértője, a magzatelhajtási tilalommal foglalkozó, közeljövőben meghozandó rendelet indoklását abban keresi, hogy - mint mondja - mivel a szocialista társadalomban nincs munkanélküliség, a nőnek nem áll jogában visszautasítani az „anyaság örömeit”. Mi ez, ha nem papi filozófia, amely ráadásul zsandárököllel rendelkezik? Az imént olvastuk a párt központi lapjában, hogy a gyerekszülés az asszony számára - és igazságosabb lenne azt mondani: a legtöbb asszony számára - „veszélyt jelent”. Az imént hallottuk egy magas állású szovjet személyiség megállapítását, hogy „a csavargó és felügyelet nélküli gyermekek helyzetének a rendezése gyengén folyik” ami minden bizonnyal a gyermekcsavargás növekedését jelenti; és íme, egyik magasrangú köztisztviselő kijelenti, hogy az „édes élet országában” a magzatelhajtást börtönnel büntetik, pontosan úgy, mint a kapitalista országokban, ahol szomorú az élet. Előrelátható, hogy a Szovjetunióban éppúgy, mint nyugaton, többnyire éppen a munkásnők és parasztasszonyok, a cselédek lesznek azok, akiknek nehéz lesz eltitkolni bűnüket, akik tehát a fegyőrök martalékává lesznek. Ami a „mi asszonyainkat” illeti, akiket a jó minőségű parfümök, és más hasonló cikkek érdekelnek, ők továbbra is csinálják, ami nekik tetszik a jó akaratú igazságszolgáltatás orra előtt. „Szükségünk van az emberekre”, teszi hozzá Solz, és behunyja szemét az elhagyott gyermekek láttán. A dolgozó nők milliói válaszolhatnának neki, ha a bürokrácia nem forrasztotta volna torkukra a szót: „Csináljatok magatok gyerekeket!””

Objectivity of this sort is nothing but a conventional trick. I do not need it. Since I have submitted to the necessity of writing about myself — nobody has as yet succeeded in writing an autobiography without writing about himself — I can have no reason to hide my sympathies or antipathies, my loves or my hates.”
