“The US lost control of security on day one, with the outbreak of looting. Iraqis are a people that had known nothing but a surplus of security. To suddenly take all that away and say, in effect, you are on your own, was unforgivable. They felt that no one was in control. And when your whole world is being turned upside down, the feeling that no one is in control is terrifying, and consequently it is conducive of the most irrational forms of behavior.”

“Satan can control you if you let outward things determine your security.”
“Iraqis will decide who controls Iraq - no one from outside.”
Interview with Al Jazeera (25 May 2018)
Context: We are saying and insisting that all forces should belong to Iraq's interest first. And this should apply to all forces and I think when we are talking about building the state, building armed forces, loyalty to Iraq's interest - this should apply to everybody. As far as I know all, other political forces including Hashd accept these principles. Iraqis will decide who controls Iraq - no one from outside.

Original: Durante i giorni della tua vita, una delle risorse più importanti che devi imparare a controllare è la pazienza. Chi riesce a dominare la calma, vive in armonia con il mondo intero.

“One reason you should not use web applications to do your computing is that you lose control.”
"Cloud computing is a trap, warns GNU founder Richard Stallman", in The Guardian (29 September 2008)
2000s
Context: One reason you should not use web applications to do your computing is that you lose control. It's just as bad as using a proprietary program. Do your own computing on your own computer with your copy of a freedom-respecting program. If you use a proprietary program or somebody else's web server, you're defenceless. You're putty in the hands of whoever developed that software.

Context: I am very much aware of my own double self... The well-known one is very under control; everything is planned and very secure. The unknown one can be very unpleasant. I think this side is responsible for all the creative work — he is in touch with the child. He is not rational, he is impulsive and extremely emotional. Perhaps it is not even a "he," but a "she."
