“Kate," Lucern interrupted.
"What?" she asked warily.
"I do not need blood." He tugged her off balance and into his lap. "All I need is you.”

“Rose? Is that you?" I peered behind him. Lissa. "What are you doing here?"
"What are you doing here?" She asked
"Ladies, ladies" he said teasingly. "No need to fight over me."
I glared. "We're not.”

“Malcolm looked warily at her. 'She may be dangerous,' he said to Julian. 'Then again, all women are dangerous.”

“I'm not responsible for my child and who she's become, but I am responsible to her, and she is a wonderful person. I love her. I don't know if you need to know anything else, but that's all I need to know.”

“She had seemed to need something from him that he hadn’t been able to give… at last he realized that what she had needed from him was need itself. That he should need her as she needed him.”

“She said, "Do you have more things that you need, or more that you don't need?" I said, "It depends on what it means to need.”

“They don't really pay attention to me, except when they need my blood or something. I wouldn't even be alive, if it wasn't for Kate being sick.”

“She had no need to ask why he had come. She knew as certainly as if he had told her that he was here to be where she was.”

“As far as I know, he never asked where she had been or why she had left and she never told. I guess some stories do not need telling.”
