Szimon Peres – izraelski polityk, 9. prezydent państwa Izrael w latach 2007–2014, dwukrotnie premier Izraela – w latach 1984–1986 stał na czele dwudziestego pierwszego, a w latach 1995–1996 dwudziestego szóstego rządu Izraela, dwukrotnie p.o. premiera , minister w dwunastu rządach, poseł do Knesetu od 1959 do 2007.

W 1994 wraz z ówczesnym premierem Izraela Icchakiem Rabinem i przywódcą Palestyńczyków Jasirem Arafatem został laureatem Pokojowej Nagrody Nobla. Został wyróżniony za rozmowy pokojowe, które prowadził jako izraelski minister spraw zagranicznych, których skutkiem były tzw. porozumienia z Oslo. Wikipedia
