Sir Richard Owen, a Bath-rend parancsnok-lovagja angol biológus, összehasonlító anatómus és őslénykutató. Zoológiai szakmunkákban nevének rövidítése: „Owen”.

Napjainkban leginkább a Dinosauria öregrend megalkotásáról és a természetes kiválasztódás útján történő evolúció elméletét kidolgozó Charles Darwinnal való szembenállásáról ismert. Egyetértett Darwinnal abban, hogy az evolúció megtörtént, de úgy gondolta, hogy jóval összetettebb módon ment végbe, mint ahogy azt a könyvében állítja. 1881-ben Owen közbenjárására hozták létre a londoni Természetrajzi Múzeumot.
