Zénon de Cition citations

Zénon de Kition , né à Kition — actuelle Larnaca dans l'île de Chypre —, est un philosophe grec d'origine phénicienne, fondateur en 301 av. J.-C. du stoïcisme, l'école du Portique, et mort en 262. Sa doctrine eut ceci de nouveau qu'elle joignit deux traditions jusqu'alors séparées, à savoir la théorie de la sagesse et la physique : Zénon tenta de concilier les thèses naturalistes de certains Académiciens successeurs de Platon avec la théorie cynique de la sagesse, et posa ainsi les bases d'un système matérialiste, moniste et déterministe dont le rayonnement fut considérable.
