Plutarque , né à Chéronée en Béotie vers 46 et mort vers 125, est un philosophe, biographe, moraliste, et penseur majeur de la Rome antique. Grec d'origine, il fut un des précurseurs du courant philosophique nommé le néoplatonisme et s'opposa dans ses traités de morale aux courants stoïciens et épicuriens.
