Giacomo Leopardi, né le 29 juin 1798 à Recanati et mort le 14 juin 1837 à Naples , est un poète, philosophe, écrivain, moraliste et philologue italien, considéré comme le plus grand poète de langue italienne du XIXe siècle et une des plus importantes figures de la littérature mondiale ainsi que du romantisme littéraire.
La qualité lyrique de sa poésie lui a donné une influence internationale sur les générations suivantes. Sa méditation métaphysique et lyrique sur le tragique de l'existence en fait un précurseur de Schopenhauer, de Nietzsche, de Freud, de Cioran.
