“I'm much more interested in becoming a good man than in becoming a good actor.”
As quoted in the article "Joshing Around" in Movieline magazine (November 1999)
Context: I'm unfettered by the world, which is a very unique place to be at my age. I'll have to eventually choose what these next few years will be about, but I'm not in a rush. Besides, my personal life is much more important to me than my professional life and my self-worth isn't based on whether or not I act. I love acting, but I'm also looking into the great wide-open at this as-yet unpainted mural that will be my life. Whether or not it involves the movie business I'm not sure. I'm much more interested in becoming a good man than in becoming a good actor.
“It is much more important to kill bad bills than to pass good ones.”
Letter (6 September 1910) to his father, John Coolidge, who had been elected to the Vermont State Senate; in Your Son Calvin Coolidge, as cited in Silent Cal’s Almanack: The Homespun Wit and Wisdom of Vermont's Calvin Coolidge (2011), Ed. David Pietrusza, Bookbrewer, "Legislation".
1910s, Letter to John Coolidge (1910)
Variant: There are two types of people in this world, good and bad. The good sleep better, but the bad seem to enjoy the waking hours much more.
“This Divine Seed is in every person good or bad.”
Social Law in the Spiritual World (1904)
Context: The Inner Light is the doctrine that there is something Divine, "something of God," in the human soul.
Five words are used indiscriminately to name this Divine something: "The Light," "The Seed," "Christ within," "The Spirit," "That of God in you." This Divine Seed is in every person good or bad.

“There has to be a woman, but not much of a one. A good horse is much more important.”
