Also Samuel van Hoogstraten, the first student of Rembrandt in Amsterdam, mentions the use of such a varnish in his &#x27;Inleyding tot de Hooge Schoolde der Schilderkunst&#x27;, Middelburg 1671 / Rotterdam 1678 <br class="br">1640 - 1670
