Mikołaj z Oresme cytaty

Mikołaj Oresme, także Nicole Oresme lub Nicolas d’Oresmus – francuski średniowieczny filozof. Prowadził badania między innymi w zakresie matematyki, ekonomii, fizyki i astronomii. Był również katolickim biskupem Lisieux i doradcą króla Karola V Mądrego. Ponadto był uznanym tłumaczem i komentatorem dzieł Arystotelesa .

Do jego osiągnięć zalicza się:



stworzenie francuskiej terminologii naukowej,

w matematyce – wprowadzenie potęgi o wykładniku ułamkowym,

w astronomii – koncepcję dobowego ruchu Ziemi,

“Every measurable thing except numbers is imagined in the manner of a continuous quantity. Therefore, for the mensuration of such a thing, it is necessary that points, lines, and surfaces, or their properties, be imagined.
