Dean Gooderham Acheson – amerykański polityk i dyplomata.

Był współtwórcą doktryny Trumana. Studiował prawo na uniwersytetach Yale’a i Harvarda, a w 1941 podjął pracę w Departamencie Stanu na stanowisku podsekretarza , a następnie sekretarza stanu w rządzie Trumana .

Do jego osiągnięć należało wprowadzenie w 1947 w życie planu Marshalla, silne wspieranie idei utworzenia NATO . Jego książka Present at the Creation została uhonorowana Nagrodą Pulitzera.

Miał znaczny wpływ na politykę zagraniczną USA w początkowym okresie zimnej wojny.

Jest autorem tak zwanego planu Achesona, który stanowił podstawę uchwalenia przez Zgromadzenie Ogólne ONZ rezolucji Uniting for Peace w 1950. Rezolucja ta przekazywała w ręce Zgromadzenia Ogólnego kompetencje Rady Bezpieczeństwa w przedmiocie utrzymania pokoju, gdyby ta znalazła się z przyczyn politycznych w stanie paraliżu decyzyjnego. Dotychczas ONZ skorzystała z niej 12 razy. Wikipedia
