“In some far off place
Many light years in space
I’ll wait for you.”
Liner notes to Monorails and Satellites (1968)
Context: In some far off place
Many light years in space
I’ll wait for you.
Where human feet have never trod,
Where human eyes have never seen.
I'll build a world of abstract dreams
And wait for you.
2015, Speech: Declaration as Vice Presidential Candidate
“We cannot put off living until we are ready.”

Context: Life cannot wait until the sciences may have explained the universe scientifically. We cannot put off living until we are ready. The most salient characteristic of life is its coerciveness: it is always urgent, "here and now" without any possible postponement. Life is fired at us point-blank. And culture, which is but its interpretation, cannot wait any more than can life itself.
