Charles Fuller – dramaturg amerykański, zdobywca Nagrody Pulitzera. Urodził się 5 marca 1939 w Filadelfii. Studiował na Villanova University i w La Salle College . Od 1959 do 1962 służył w amerykańskiej armii. Doświadczenia z tego okresu stały się pożywką dla jego późniejszych dzieł. W 1967 był jednym z założycieli the Afro-American Arts Theatre in Philadelphia, którym współkierował w latach 1967-1971. W 1968 napisał sztukę The Village: A Party poruszającą problemy rasowe. Wydał też In the Deepest Part of Sleep , The Brownsville Raid , Zooman and the Sign i cykl historyczny We, składający się ze sztuk Sally , Prince , Jonquil i Burner’s Frolic . Za utwór A Soldier’s Play otrzymał w 1982 Nagrodę Pulitzera w dziedzinie dramatu. Opublikował też sztukę One Night... o żołnierce zgwałconej przez kolegów w czasie wojny w Iraku. Wikipedia

“I didn’t start writing to tell happy, little stories. I started writing to make some impact on the world in which I live. If you don’t want to say anything about sexual assault, that’s your business, but I want to say something about it. I think it is absolutely and unequivocally wrong. We have no right because we are in the military to rape fellow soldiers who just happen to be females. A lot of victims are male as well. In the Army I was in, the life of the person next to you was as valuable as your own. You would never do anything to hurt your comrade. Your life depended on him, and in the case of Iraq, those gentlemen’s lives depended on the women they were raping. It’s horrifying.”
