„Once in our lives we have all to choose. More or less we have all felt once the same emotions.“

—  James Anthony Froude, könyv The Nemesis of Faith

Confessions Of A Sceptic
The Nemesis of Faith (1849)
Kontextus: Once in our lives we have all to choose. More or less we have all felt once the same emotions. We have not always been what the professions make of us. Nature made us men, and she surrenders not her children without a struggle. I will go back to my story now with but this one word, that it is these sons of genius, and the fate they meet with, which is to me the one sole evidence that there is more in "this huge state" than what is seen, and that in very truth the soul of man is not a thing which comes and goes, is builded and decays like the elemental frame in which it is set to dwell, but a very living force, a very energy of God's organic Will, which rules and moulds this universe.
For what are they? Say not, say not, it is but a choice which they have made; and an immortality of glory in heaven shall reward them for what they have sacrificed on earth. It may be so; but they do not ask for it. They are what they are from the Divine power which is in them, and you would never hear their complainings if the grave was the gate of annihilation.

„We're all alive, but we don't know why or what for; we're all searching for happiness; we're all leading lives that are different and yet the same.“

—  Anne Frank victim of the Holocaust and author of a diary 1929 - 1945

6 July 1944
Variant translation: We all live with the objective of being happy, our lives are all different and yet the same.
(1942 - 1944)
Eredeti: (nl) Wij leven allen, maar weten niet waarom en waarvoor, wij leven allen met het doel gelukkig te worden, we leven allen verschillend en toch gelijk.

„We all have the same God, we just serve him differently.“

—  Muhammad Ali, könyv The Soul of a Butterfly

Forrás: The Soul of a Butterfly (2004), p. xvii
Kontextus: We all have the same God, we just serve him differently. Rivers, lakes, ponds, streams, oceans all have different names, but they all contain water. So do religions have different names, and they all contain truth, expressed in different ways forms and times. It doesn't matter whether you're a Muslim, a Christian, or a Jew. When you believe in God, you should believe that all people are part of one family. If you love God, you can't love only some of his children.

„We all declare for liberty; but in using the same word we do not all mean the same thing.“

—  Abraham Lincoln 16th President of the United States 1809 - 1865

Address in Baltimore, Maryland http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/?pid=88871 (18 April 1864)
1860s
Kontextus: The world has never had a good definition of the word liberty, and the American people, just now, are much in want of one. We all declare for liberty; but in using the same word we do not all mean the same thing. With some the word liberty may mean for each man to do as he pleases with himself, and the product of his labor; while with others, the same word may mean for some men to do as they please with other men, and the product of other men's labor. Here are two, not only different, but incompatible things, called by the same name — liberty. And it follows that each of the things is, by the respective parties, called by two different and incompatible names — liberty and tyranny.

„If we all don't enjoy the same rights, then no one enjoys any rights at all; some of us merely enjoy privilege.“

—  Wendy Kaminer American lawyer 1949

"6/24/95 Wendy Kaminer on Crime" (24 June 1995)
Kontextus: Not everything that appears true is true. The ACLU is devoted to some very controversial principles — like the principle that everyone who is arrested should enjoy the same constitutional rights, regardless of their alleged crime or their character. We don't take that position to irritate people; we take that position because we believe in it. We believe in it, in part, in a spirit of enlightened self-interest, because the rights of each one of us are co-extensive with the rights of everyone who is arrested and prosecuted in the criminal courts. If we all don't enjoy the same rights, then no one enjoys any rights at all; some of us merely enjoy privilege.
