Membre du parlement pour la circonscription de Wonderboom , de Westdene et du Gauteng , ministre des affaires étrangères de 1977 à 1994 puis ministre des mines et de l'énergie de 1994 à 1996, il fut membre du Parti national . Pik Botha a été ministre sous les gouvernements de John Vorster, de Pieter Botha, de Frederik de Klerk et de Nelson Mandela.
