George Herbert Walker Bush, né le 12 juin 1924 à Milton , est un vétéran de la Seconde Guerre mondiale et homme d'État américain, 41e président des États-Unis pour un unique mandat de 1989 à 1993.

Élu à la Chambre des représentants des États-Unis pour le Texas en 1966, il est nommé ambassadeur américain aux Nations unies en 1971 par le président Richard Nixon. Il est par la suite chef de liaison en Chine populaire puis est promu directeur de la CIA en 1976. Membre du Parti républicain, il est le colistier de Ronald Reagan lorsque celui-ci se présente aux élections présidentielles, ce qui lui permet d'être vice-président des États-Unis de 1981 à 1989. Il devient président des États-Unis le 20 janvier 1989, après avoir défait le démocrate Michael Dukakis à l'élection présidentielle. Son mandat est notamment marqué par la guerre du Golfe.

Battu par Bill Clinton lors de l'élection présidentielle de 1992, il quitte la Maison-Blanche le 20 janvier 1993. Son fils George W. Bush est le 43e président des États-Unis, en fonction entre le 20 janvier 2001 et le 20 janvier 2009.

Le 25 novembre 2017, George Bush dépasse le record de longévité de Gerald Ford et devient le président américain le plus âgé de l'histoire.
