Mary Flannery O'Connor, née le 25 mars 1925 à Savannah en Géorgie et décédée le 3 août 1964 à Milledgeville en Géorgie, est une femme de lettres et nouvelliste américaine. O'Connor est une importante voix de la littérature américaine. Elle est l'auteur de deux romans, de trente deux nouvelles, ainsi que de nombreux textes courts . On lui doit par ailleurs un important corps de lettres qui, mises bout à bout, finissent par constituer une véritable figure morale et littéraire. Son style, qualifié de Southern Gothic, est intimement lié à sa région, le sud des États-Unis, et à ses personnages grotesques. Les écrits d'O'Connor reflètent aussi sa foi catholique, dans l'examen de questions morales.
Ses Histoires Complètes ont remporté le National Book Award catégorie Fiction aux États-Unis en 1972, à titre posthume, huit ans après son décès.
