Deng Xiaoping

Deng Xiaoping ou Teng Hiao-Ping ou Teng Hsiao-Ping a été le secrétaire général du Parti communiste chinois de 1956 à 1967? et plus tard le numéro un de la république populaire de Chine de décembre 1978 à 1992. Quoique retiré ensuite des affaires, il demeura un référent pour le régime jusqu'à son décès.

Né dans une famille de fermiers à Guang'an dans le Sichuan, Deng étudie, adolescent en France dans les années 1920 où il est influencé par le marxisme. Il rejoint le Parti communiste chinois en 1923.

Deng Xiaoping est généralement considéré comme étant à l’origine du développement économique de la Chine actuelle.

Deng is commonly quoted with this phrase in western media but there is no proof that he actually said it
However, this phrase in Chinese is more accurately translated as ""wealth is glorious,"" where wealth can have a very general meaning, including knowledge, personal relationships, family: anything of value. Understood this way, the quote is not as directly controversial as a ideological/political statement, and so it is not hard to believe that he really did say this.
