Cy Twombly citations

Cy Twombly, né Edwin Parker Twombly Jr. le 25 avril 1928 à Lexington – mort le 5 juillet 2011 à Rome, est un peintre, dessinateur, sculpteur et photographe américain.

Cy Twombly appartient à la génération de Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns ou encore Brice Marden, renouvelant l'art américain après la génération des Expressionnistes abstraits que furent Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko ou Barnett Newman.

Son œuvre croise certains des enjeux majeurs de l'art au XXe siècle tels le dilemme abstraction/figuration, l'influence de la psychanalyse, le primitivisme, le rôle de l'écriture et du signe en peinture, l'hommage aux anciens , les liens artistiques entre Europe et Amérique. Wikipedia
