Boris Johnson citations

Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, dit Boris Johnson, né le 19 juin 1964 à New York, est un homme politique britannique, membre du Parti conservateur et ancien secrétaire d'État des Affaires étrangères et du Commonwealth du Royaume-Uni.

Après un cursus scolaire typique de la haute bourgeoisie britannique, il se fait d'abord connaître comme journaliste dans les grands quotidiens britanniques.

Avec les Tories, il est élu à la Chambres des communes en 2001, dans la circonscription de Henley, puis réélu en 2005. Il gagne les élections municipales de Londres de 2008 face au maire sortant, Ken Livingstone, et celles de 2012 également face à celui-ci. Son mandat est marqué entre autres par plusieurs réformes, comme l'interdiction de la consommation d'alcool dans les transports publics, la mise en circulation d'une nouvelle génération de bus et des Boris Bikes, ainsi que la défense du secteur financier de Londres et la promotion de la construction d'un nouvel aéroport pour la capitale.

Après avoir quitté le Parlement à la suite de son élection comme maire, il y revient en 2015 en se faisant élire dans la circonscription d'Uxbridge et South Ruislip, dans le Grand Londres. Il quitte la mairie de Londres l'année suivante.

En 2016, après avoir été le porte-parole du camp favorable à une sortie du Royaume-Uni de l'Union européenne, il est nommé secrétaire d'État des Affaires étrangères et du Commonwealth dans le gouvernement de Theresa May. Deux ans plus tard, en désaccord avec la Première ministre sur la conduite d'un Brexit modéré, il démissionne du gouvernement.
