“My cigarettes and I are going outside. At least they show me respect.”

“For once, you're going to hear something that doesn't fit into your neat, compartmentalized world of order and logic and reason.”

“Fine, I guess it's ok then. Go ahead."
"Huh? What's ok?"
"It's okay if you marry my brother.”

“Rose. Roza. Open your eyes." I've never heard heard his voice so strained, so frantic. "Don't go to sleep on me. Not yet.”

“There was a lot of apologizing going on, but I realized that was how it was with people you cared about. You forgave each other and moved on.”

“Call me crazy for asking this, but, um, are Lissa and I going with you?"
"No"
"No?"
"No.”

“I don't know, but I think it's going to be good.”

“She felt so much emotionally, she would say, that a physical outlet - physical pain - was the only way to make her internal pain go away. It was the only way she could control it.”

“You'd give up drinking to go see your dad?"
"Well, not permanently," he said. "That'd be ridiculous. But maybe I could switch to something slightly cheaper for a while. Like… slushes. Do you know how much I love those? Cherry, especially.”

“Abe shook his head, and now the smile was gone altogether. "That's not the reason either. Don't lie to me little girl."
I felt my hackles going up. "And don't interrogate me, old man.”

“I don't care," said Seth. "I would have done it. I would have sold my soul for you. You and me… I told you. Something's always going to keep us near each other… even if we aren't together.”

“Are we going to New Orleans?"

"No", she said, backing out of the spot. "We're going to West Virginia."

"I assume by 'West Virginia,' you actually mean 'Hawaii,'" I said. "Or some place equally exciting.”

“Blake smiled radiantly. ʺMay I call you Vasilisa?ʺ
ʺYou can call me Lissa.ʺ
ʺYou can also,ʺ added Christian, ʺlet go of her hand now.”

“I, had an excellent instructor. One that you currently have locked up. If you want to talk about skills going to waste, then go look in your own jail.”

“Plus, I was about to spend six weeks with Christian Ozera. He was sarcastic, difficult, and made jokes about everything. Actually, he was a lot like me.
It was going to be a long six weeks.”

“Dimitri: "Were you really going to attack all of us? Doing that… protecting her like that—it was very brave. Stupid, but still brave. Why did you even try it?”
Rose: "Because I'm her guardian.”

“This," Adrian said grandly, "is Blake Lazar."
"It's nice to meet you," she said.
Blake smile radiantly. "May I call you Vasilisa?"
"You can call me Lissa."
"You can also," added Christian, "let go of her hand now.”
