“Tessa, surprising herself, let out a gasp of laughter. Will looked at her, his mouth just beginning to quirk up in a grin. "I must be more amusing than I thought. Which would make me very amusing indeed.”

“There was something about Jace, though, that made her want to push him, crack that shell of cynicism and make him admit her believed something, felt something, cared about anythinng at all.”

“She soared above the ground, and he kept her tethered to the earth. Without him she would be lost among the clouds.”

“How long have you been drawing me?”
He sighted. A moment later his hand came to rest in her hair. His fingers twined in the strands. “My whole life.”

“she was glad she had been scarred. She said that whoever loved her now would love her true self, and not her pretty face.”

“Jace snorted so loudly that she turned on him with a frown. He wiggled his mud-caked fingers at her. His nails were black crescents. "Filthy inside and out.”

“Isabelle," she said, lightening her tone with an obvious effort, "your loyalty to your friend is understandable --"
"He's not my friend." Isabelle looked over at Jace, who was staring at her in a sort of daze. "He's my brother.”

“He was gazing at her, the way one did when one felt one was unobserved. He had that look on his face, the look he usually got only when he was playing the violin, as if he were completely caught up and entranced.”

“You sound as if you don't mind what happens to it," said Tessa. "Won't you miss it here? This place has been your home."
His fingers stroked her wrist lightly, making her shiver.
"You are home for me now.”

“He was still stroking the inside of her wrist, his touch doing odd delicious things to her skin and nerves.”

“Her green eyes flutter all the way open, and she looks amused. It pricks his ego slightly. Afterkiss, shouldn’t she be fainting at his feet? But she’s grinning.”

“Jace told me once you’d walk all over my heart in high-heeled boots, and it hasn’t stopped me.
Isabelle gave a little gasp of startled laughter. “He said that? And you stuck around?”
He leaned in toward her … “I would consider it an honor.”

“We needn't talk about Tessa if you don't want to, you know."
"It's not Tessa." This was true. Will hadn't been thinking of Tessa. He was getting good at not thinking about her, really; all it took was determination and practice.”

“I didn't know," he said. "I didn't know you needed me."
Her voice shook. "I always need you”

“Okay. I've got a good one." Simon stroked Isabelle's hair feeling her lashes flutter against his neck as she closed her eyes. "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.”

“I screwed her over. I didn't want to see her screwed over by someone else.”

“Mr. Lightwood," she said, raising herself up on her elbows. "Are thoseunder your bed?”

“She had wondered, when he’d looked into her eyes and said that he’d had to learn to make do without mirrors in the Wild Hunt, whose eyes he’d been looking into for all those years. Who’d been his mirror.
Now she knew.”

“i was joking with isabelle about vampires right before it happened. just trying to make her laugh, you know? what freaks out jewish vanpires? silver stars of david? chopped liver? check for eighteen dollars?”
