Alessandro Cagliostro Quotes

Count Alessandro di Cagliostro was the alias of the Italian occultist Giuseppe Balsamo .Cagliostro was an Italian adventurer and self-styled magician. He became a glamorous figure associated with the royal courts of Europe where he pursued various occult arts, including psychic healing, alchemy and scrying. His reputation lingered for many decades after his death, but continued to deteriorate, as he came to be regarded as a charlatan and impostor, this view fortified by the savage attack of Thomas Carlyle in 1833, who pronounced him the "Quack of Quacks". Later works—such as that of W.R.H. Trowbridge in his Cagliostro: the Splendour and Misery of a Master of Magic , attempted a rehabilitation. Wikipedia

Famous Alessandro Cagliostro Quotes

“I quitted the Bastille, about half-past eleven in the evening. The night was dark, the quarter in which I resided but little frequented. What was my surprise, then, to hear myself acclaimed by eight or ten thousand persons. My door was forced open; the courtyard, the staircase, the rooms were crowded with people. I was carried straight to the arms of my wife.”

“I amuse myself, not by making people believe what I wish, but by letting them believe what they wish. These fools of Parisians declare that I am five hundred, and I confirm them in the idea since it pleases them.”
