A válogatottban 102 meccsen 44 gólt szerzett. A válogatottal több világversenyen is szerepelt, ám ezek közül egyiken sem sikerült kiemelkedő eredményt elérnie, ellenben a Real Madriddal hatszoros spanyol bajnok, háromszoros BL-győztes, valamint kétszeres gólkirály.

2010 nyarán igazolt a német Schalkéhoz, majd két év elteltével Katarba, az Asz-Szaddhoz szerződött.
