Vegetius , teljes nevén Flavius Vegetius Renatus, a kevés számú reánk maradt római hadászati írók egyike.
Kr. u. 384 és 395 között irta Epitome rei militaris című 4 könyves munkáját, amelyet Nagy Theodosius császárnak ajánlott. Az 1. könyv az újoncozásról és az újoncok begyakorlásáról, a 2. a katonai fegyelemről, a 3. a háborúról és a strategemákról, a 4. az ostromlásról szól. Az egész mű nem egyéb, mint kivonat Cato Censorius , Cornelius Celsus, Frontinus, Paternus stb. hadászati munkáiból. Bár Vegetiusnak a kivonatoláshoz sem volt meg a kellő szakértelme és stilusa is igen fogyatékos, műve mégis, mivel az eredeti források elvesztek, nélkülözhetetlen a római hadászattal foglalkozóknak.
