Philip Kindred Dick amerikai sci-fi író, aki a műfajt alapjaiban változtatta meg. Nem tudományos tényekre építette írásainak tematikus alapját, hanem metafizikai alternatívákra. Annak ellenére, hogy már életében olyan személyiségek tisztelték, mint Stanisław Lem, művei nem élveztek nagy publicitást. Egészen haláláig, ami után több regényéből készített sikeres filmet mutattak be, s ez végül maga után vonta megérdemelt elismerését. Műveit legalább 25 nyelvre fordították le.

Ezen megfilmesítésekben olyan sztárok alakították a főszerepeket, mint Harrison Ford, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise, Gary Sinise, Ben Affleck, Uma Thurman vagy Keanu Reeves. Álmodnak-e az androidok elektronikus bárányokkal? című regénye volt az alapja a Ridley Scott által rendezett Szárnyas fejvadásznak, melyet 1982-ben mutattak be.

Műveiben Dick a valóság, az emberiesség és az önazonosság kérdéseit járja körül. A cyberpunk előfutárának tekinthető.
