Peter Ware Higgs Nobel-díjas brit elméleti fizikus. Skóciában dolgozott, nyugdíjas egyetemi tanár és részecskefizikus, aki elsőnek hozta nyilvánosságra egy olyan, szubatomi részecske létezését aminek minden egyéb szubatomi részecske tehetetlensége tulajdonítható. Ezt a részecskét, amit róla Higgs-bozonnak neveztek el évtizedekig tartó kutatás után 2012-ben fedeztek fel a Svájc és Franciaország közötti CERN kutatóintézet mélyen, a talaj alatt épített részecskegyorsítóban . Az eredményt július 4-én hozták nyilvánosságra, melyért a következő évben 2013-ban François Englert-rel közösen fizikai Nobel-díjat kaptak. Wikipedia

During the opening of one conference Peter Higgs attended to. The name is after all of the people (Philip Warren Anderson, Robert Brout, François Englert, Gerry Guralnik, Dick Hagen, Peter Higgs, Tom Kibble and Gerard 't Hooft) who discovered it, or rediscovered it.
