John Wilder Tukey, amerikai matematikus, statisztikus. A Brown Egyetem kémia szakán végzett és doktorált, majd 1938-ban matematikából is szerzett doktori fokozatot a Princetoni Egyetemen. A számítógépek alkalmazásának egyik úttörője, ő alkotta meg a „bit” és a "software" kifejezéseket. Wikipedia
