Philippe Mélanchthon, forme francisée usuelle en usage dès le XVIe siècle,, ou Philipp Melanchton, de son nom humanistique Philippus Melanchthon, latinisation du grec Φίλιππος Μελάγχθων créé d'après son nom allemand interprété de façon erronée Philipp Schwarzert, né le 16 février 1497 à Bretten, dans le Palatinat , mort le 19 avril 1560 à Wittemberg, est un humaniste, philosophe et réformateur protestant allemand.

Docteur en théologie, professeur à l'université, disciple de Martin Luther, Mélanchthon est surtout connu pour avoir rédigé, en 1530, la Confession d'Augsbourg. Il est en outre le créateur du terme psychologie, forgé à partir du grec. Wikipedia
