Oskar Schindler citations

Oskar Schindler, né le 28 avril 1908 à Zwittau, à l'extrême Ouest de la Moravie et mort le 9 octobre 1974 à Hildesheim, en Allemagne, est un industriel allemand. Il a sauvé, durant la Shoah, entre 1 100 et 1 200 Juifs en les faisant travailler dans ses fabriques d'émail et de munitions situées respectivement dans le Gouvernement général de Pologne et dans le protectorat de Bohême-Moravie.

Il a été honoré du titre de « Juste parmi les nations », par le Mémorial de Yad Vashem, le 18 juillet 1967. Sa vie a été le sujet d'un roman de Thomas Keneally en 1982 et d'un film de Steven Spielberg en 1993. Il est enterré au cimetière chrétien du mont Sion à Jérusalem. Wikipedia

Contexte: The persecution of Jews in occupied Poland meant that we could see horror emerging gradually in many ways. In 1939, they were forced to wear Jewish stars, and people were herded and shut up into ghettos. Then, in the years '41 and '42 there was plenty of public evidence of pure sadism. With people behaving like pigs, I felt the Jews were being destroyed. I had to help them. There was no choice.
