John Clive Ward Quotes

John Clive Ward, was a British-Australian physicist. He introduced the Ward–Takahashi identity, also known as "Ward Identity" . Andrei Sakharov said Ward was one of the titans of quantum electrodynamics. He made significant contributions to quantum solid-state physics, statistical mechanics and the Ising model.

Ward was one of the authors of the Standard Model of gauge particle interactions: his contributions were published in a series of papers he co-authored with Abdus Salam. He is also credited with being an early advocate of the use of Feynman diagrams. It has been said that physicists have made use of his principles and developments "often without knowing it, and generally without quoting him."In 1955, Ward was recruited to work at the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment at Aldermaston. There, he independently derived a version of the Teller-Ulam design, for which he has been called the "father of the British H-bomb". Wikipedia

Famous John Clive Ward Quotes

“Almost all the serious achievements are simple in principle… the ideas must be sufficiently simple.”

As quoted in [F. J. Duarte, Laser Physicist, Optics Journal, 2012, 978-0-9760383-1-3, 63]

“One day I had the idea of radiation implosion. As in all ideas that have ever popped up in my head, there is no way I can trace the source.”

J. C. Ward, Memoirs of a Theoretical Physicist (Optics Journal, Rochester, 2004).

“Dynamical variables are what count in physics, not coordinate or gauge transformations.”

J. C. Ward, Memoirs of a Theoretical Physicist (Optics Journal, Rochester, 2004).
