Peter „Pete” Seeger amerikai folkénekes, politikai aktivista, író.

Meghatározója a folkzene újjáéledésének, megalapítója a közönséggel való együtt éneklésnek, világszerte ünnepelt előadóművész. A környezetvédelem jelszavával épített vitorlással – Sloop Clearwater – kívánja felhívni a figyelmet életterünk megóvására. A tiltakozó dalairól nevezetes, elkötelezett népzenész. Hazáján kívül járt a volt Szovjetunióban, Csehszlovákiában, a Német Demokratikus Köztársaságban, Nyugat-Európa számos országában, valamint Ausztráliában, Kubában és Kanadában is. 2008 nyarán Torontóban koncertezett, és új CD-vel jelentkezett, címében utalva korára. “We'll walk hand in hand
We'll walk hand in hand
We'll walk hand in hand some day…
The whole wide world around some day.”

Lyrics added to "We Shall Overcome" by Seeger in the late 1940s, whose musical arrangement and renditions helped popularize the song among civil-rights activists in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He also changed the primary lines from from "We Will Overcome" to "We Shall Overcome".
