Sidney Poitier est un acteur et réalisateur américano-bahaméen et un ambassadeur des Bahamas, né le 20 février 1927 à Miami. Fait chevalier-commandeur de l'ordre de l'Empire britannique en 1974, il est le premier acteur noir et le premier bahaméen à recevoir l'Oscar du meilleur acteur, en 1964, pour Le Lys des champs.
Il occupe la 22e place dans le classement des plus grands acteurs selon l'American Film Institute.
Après avoir été marié à la danseuse Juanita Hardy de 1950 à 1965, il a épousé l'actrice Joanna Shimkus le 23 janvier 1976 avec qui il a eu deux filles dont l'actrice Sydney Tamiia Poitier.

Variante: I’ve learned that I must find positive outlets for anger or it will destroy me. There is a certain anger; it reaches such intensity that to express it fully would require homicidal rage — self-destructive, destroy-the-world rage — and its flame burns because the world is so unjust. I have to try to find a way to channel that anger to the positive, and the highest positive is forgiveness.
