Mata Amritanandamayi, née le 27 septembre 1953, est une figure spirituelle contemporaine de l’Inde et la fondatrice de l'ONG « Embracing The World » , à but humanitaire et écologique dont le siège est au Kérala . Appelée communément Amma , elle est hindoue de naissance mais déclare que sa seule religion est l'amour. Son enseignement repose sur les voies traditionnelles de la non-dualité et de la dévotion .

Elle parcourt le monde pour y proposer des assemblées au cours desquelles, depuis 1975, elle aurait pris des dizaines de millions de personnes dans ses bras ,, dont l'ancien Président de l'Inde A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Cette « étreinte » est devenue « sa marque de fabrique ». Wikipedia

There is no end to the war and death caused by man or to the tears shed by all the innocent victims of such tragedies. What were all these for? Only for conquering, establishing superiority and satisfying our greed for money and fame? Mankind has taken upon itself countless curses. In order to attain freedom from these curses, at least a hundred generations to come should wipe the tears of the suffering, striving to console them and alleviate their pain. At least now, as an atonement, shouldn’t we try to introspect?
