Léopold II , deuxième roi des Belges , prince de Belgique, duc de Saxe, prince de Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha, duc de Brabant , souverain de l'État indépendant du Congo , succède à son père, Léopold Ier, sur le trône belge en 1865. Par sa mère Louise d'Orléans, il est le petit-fils de Louis-Philippe Ier, roi des Français. Il est le frère de l'impératrice du Mexique Charlotte.
