Archytas de Tarente est un philosophe pythagoricien, mathématicien, astronome, homme politique, stratège et général grec, fils de Mnésagore ou Histiée. Durant sept années consécutives, il gouverna la cité de Tarente qui connut alors une époque de prospérité, incarnant ainsi le philosophe roi éclairé tel que l'envisageaient les philosophes.
